1. Very rarely give copyright to a client - You will not be able to share it or put it in your portfolio - you will get no credit and they can change it. You also won't get payed every time they make money off the image.
2. When constructing an images combine multiple images for reference - do not copy a single one. Steer clear of lifelike portraits, likenesses can be copyrighted. You could be fined or told to stop selling your work.
3. Protect online work from being taken. Use low res images (72 dpi) and the copyright symbol on profiles.
4. Read contracts carefully, check out companies before working with them and always use your own countries copyright laws.
